Study governance

The 45 and Up Study is fully owned and auspiced by the Sax Institute and is implemented in collaboration with our partners and supporters.

The large scale and long-term nature of the 45 and Up Study, along with its unique collaborative and funding structure, has necessitated the creation of an explicit and accountable governance structure. This structure has been essential in establishing the 45 and Up Study as a state-wide resource open to use by all researchers and policy makers who have their projects approved by the Study Scientific Advisory Committee.

The governance framework of the 45 and Up Study (see figure) is designed to be responsive to the changing and emerging needs of the Study and its stakeholders. It is regularly reviewed, added to and revised. The main committees that currently make up this governance structure are:

• The Management Committee
• The Scientific Advisory Committee
• The Partners Committee
• The Community and Ethical Oversight Committee
• The Consumer and Community Sub-Committee
