Measuring Socioeconomic Status (SES) - an empirical study

Investigators:

Jack Chen (PI), Lixin Ou, Adrian Bauman, Bin Jalaludin

Project aim(s):

The aims of this baseline cross sectional analytic proposal are three fold.

   1. To test whether further suggested indicators (such as home ownership and family wealth) should be routinely included as part of measure of SES, in addition to the routinely used three indicators;

   2. To examine if a SEP score based on one-factor confirmatory factor analysis, or a SES class membership based on latent class analysis provides better predictive and constructive validity in comparison to conventional principle component method;

  3. Based on the results from 1 and 2, either a SEP score or SES class membership will be derived for each respondent in the 45-up baseline data. Such a score or SES class membership can be used in both baseline and follow-up analyses.
