Investigation of the relationship between intrinsic risk factors in fallers and non-fallers aged 45+ years

Investigators:

Angela Clapperton, Rebecca Mitchell and Wendy Watson (PI)

Project aim(s):

Fall-related injuries are a common cause of mortality and hospitalised morbidity in New South Wales (NSW), particularly among older adults. The risk of having a fall in later life has been associated with a number of factors, including extrinsic factors, such as environmental hazards, and a range of intrinsic factors, such as the presence of chronic health conditions, being female, having mobility problems, multiple medication use, alcohol consumption, and having a low body mass index. However, little is known about the association of intrinsic fall-related risk factors for different age ranges among fallers and non-fallers.
