Economic and social implications of older persons’ health and work-retirement choices under different health and social security settings
Investigators:
Dr Thierry Debrand, Associate Professor Matias Eklöf, Professor Anders Klevmarken, Dr Catherine Sermet and Dr Agnes Walker (PI)
Project aim(s):
This project is a cross-disciplinary and across-country collaboration to study health-work issues for 55+ year olds. The project will: (a) distil the lessons Australia can learn from ‘older’ European countries; (b) use emerging and new data sources and cutting-edge analytical tools to estimate the impact of health status, social security provisions and employer attitudes on the ability of and incentives for older Australians to remain in the workforce; (c) estimate the impact of longer working lives in terms of individuals’ quality of life, their earned incomes, and the savings in government expenditures on health and social security benefits; (d) repeat these analyses under different population health and social security policy scenarios; (e) carry out comparisons of selected health-work issues between Australia, Sweden and France.
