Active Ageing: inter generational transfers, social networks and policies maintaining participation for older Australians and their carers
Investigators:
Professor Bruce Armstrong, Professor Bettina Cass (PI), Professor Iian Katz and Professor Peter Saunders
Project aim(s):
The overall aim of the project is to analyse the key risk and protective factors relating to economic and social participation and active engagement in social networks of older people and their carers. The research also aims to identify government policies and workplace practices designed to:
-
Prevent disengagement from the labour force and from social participation by older people and carers
-
Mitigate the effects of economic and social disengagement by designing capacity-building programs at the institutional level (health and community services, education and skills enhancement, transport systems) which promote active participation and well-being
-
Contribute to the resilience of individuals and families through access to health and welfare services and social/cultural amenities which support older people’s participation and wellbeing
- Contribute to the maintenance of and return to labour market and social engagement for informal carers through design of policies, including formal care services, skills development and upgrading programs which facilitate the retention of carers in employment, or return to employment, or to social and community participation
