Community and Ethical Oversight Committee

The 45 and Up Study Community and Ethical Oversight Committee is charged with providing advice to ensure that the Study is conducted in the public interest. It meets quarterly.

Terms of reference

The terms of reference of the Community and Ethical Oversight Committee are to provide advice on:  

  • emerging issues within the public sphere that may have a bearing on the Study
  • the principles to be used by the study to underpin its governance, ethics and intellectual property policies
  • the policies of the Study as they relate to recruitment, public information, confidentiality, data security, access to data, release of data and study results and other relevant matters
  • the adequacy of the implementation of relevant policies based on independent audit
  • the optimal use of the Study resource and its findings  
  • processes to ensure compliance with appropriate codes of scientific conduct
  • processes to ensure adequate management of participants’ and consumers' concerns and priorities
