Principles guiding the charging policy for the 45 and Up Study
The 45 and Up Study is designed to:
Build capacity in public health or health services research by:
- enabling world class research that could not otherwise be undertaken in NSW
- providing research infrastructure to increase NSW’s share of competitive research funds
- encouraging collaboration among researchers on major projects
Increase the impact of research on policy and practice by:
- enabling the provision of timely and locally relevant information for policy makers
- providing opportunities for the establishment of research partnerships between policy makers and researchers
- encouraging research in an area of priority for policy makers, namely healthy ageing
The 45 and Up Study receives funds from our partners and supporters. In order that the 45 and Up Study remains a long term resource for practice- and policy-relevant research into healthy ageing, it must charge for use of the resource. We will:
- Recover the costs of providing services for marginal work relating to a specific project to cover staff time, office costs, hardware and software expenses and general administration of the application process. Charges for this work are based on hourly staff rates plus material costs
- Charge a contribution to support the sustainability of the 45 and Up Study, including tracking, maintenance of the cohort, linkage and follow-up surveys
- Charge an amount to support replenishment of the cohort, for sub-studies that “exhaust” the cohort and reduce the availability of some participants for further research
All individuals and groups using the 45 and Up Study resource will be charged an amount that is based on the complexity of the request and its impact on Study staff and infrastructure.
It is an expectation that individuals or groups wanting to use the Study resource request a formal quote in writing that will outline all charges.
Charges for use of the 45 and Up Study resource may be subsidised or discounted at the discretion of the Study Co-ordinating Centre:
- for projects being undertaken by charitable and not-for profit organisations, government, universities and students
- for projects being undertaken by the 45 and Up Study funding partners and supporters or projects being supported by funding schemes offered from the 45 and Up Study funding partners and supporters
- where the project contributes to achieving the mission of the 45 and Up Study and on meeting its strategic objectives
The charging policy for the 45 and Up Study will be reviewed at least annually and may be revised.
